Academic Seal

Our seal must be used exactly as provided by the Marketing Department and should not be altered in any way. Preserving the integrity of the seal is essential to maintaining brand consistency. Do not modify its proportions, spacing, or size relationships. Never alter, recreate, or apply unauthorized effects to the seal. If you encounter a version that falls outside these guidelines, it is likely outdated or unapproved. If you’re unsure about seal usage, contact the Brand Governance Team for guidance. See how our academic seal represents WGU’s mission.

Clear Space and
Minimum Size

To protect the integrity and readability of our brand, you must leave the required minimum (or greater) clear space on all four sides of the academic seal. That minimum clear space is equal to twice the height of the numerals in "1997" in the academic seal. There are no exceptions to this requirement.

WATERMARKS AND BACKGROUND ELEMENTS

The academic seal may appear as a watermark only on official or semi-official documents where it supports authenticity, formality, or institutional identity. Watermarks must be single-instance (not tiled) and subtle, and must not obstruct text or other marks. The seal should never be used as a decorative texture or pattern. Watermarks should only use the reduced-detail version of the seal on white backgrounds in order to provide enough contrast. The seal should be set to 15% opacity to ensure that overlapping text remains legible.

Improper Seal Treatment

The academic seal should be used as supplied from MarComm and not altered in any way. Our brand aims to preserve its seal integrity across all channels. Do not modify proportions, spacing, and size relationships established for organization-wide consistency. Additionally, do not alter, modify, or recreate the seal. If you use or see a seal excluded from this guideline, it is likely outdated, unauthorized, or removed from our brand. If you are unsure of seal usage, reach out to the creative department for assistance.
